Two Boys Escape From Detention Facility

Two boys escaped Thursday from a detention facility in Santa Ana, authorities said.

Around 12:30 a.m., the boys went missing.  They escaped from the Youth Guidance Center at 3030 N. Hesperian Way by climbing and jumping over the fences, said Deputy Julie Webb of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Being minors, their names will not be released. One boy was being held for drug violations, assault and battery and probation violation, sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Foster said. The other escapee was in custody for possession of illegal drugs and burglary, he said.

Both boys reside in the Santa Ana area, Webb told an On Scene Video camera crew.  He said that it was unclear if they were armed.

One of the boys is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 4, weighing 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The other is Hispanic, 5 feet 6, weighing 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Both boys were last seen wearing dark blue sweatshirts, dark blue pants and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information on the boys' whereabouts was asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Department at (714) 647-7000.
