Homeless Man Sleeping Under Train Loses Limbs

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (AP) ― A homeless man sleeping under a train lost an arm and leg when workers moved the Union Pacific freight car in Hawthorne.

Police Lt. Mike Ishii says the man was conscious and talking when he arrived Tuesday afternoon at Los Angeles County-Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance. He was in serious condition.

Investigators say motorist driving past the tracks near Northrop and Prairie avenues spotted the injured man. His name wasn't disclosed.
