Cargo Container Blocks 3 Lanes On 710 Freeway

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― A loaded cargo container detached from a big rig Friday morning, prompting the closure of at least three lanes on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The 50,000-pound cargo container fell off the big rig about 4:43 a.m. on the 710 Freeway, just south of East Olympic Boulevard, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.

It was not immediately known what was inside the cargo container. No one was hurt, Villalobos said.

Three southbound freeway lanes were closed, and a heavy-lift crane was brought to the scene to lift the container back onto the big rig. By 7:30 a.m., only one lane remained blocked, Villalobos said.
