Authorities Hope Tattoo Will Help I.D. Victim

LOS ANGELES Detectives are hoping that a tattoo on a woman killed nearly two weeks ago, when she was set on fire, will help them identify the victim.

The woman was found on fire just after sunrise Sept. 11 in a gritty industrial area near Central Avenue and 15th Street, a block north of the Santa Monica 10 Freeway.

The area is frequented by homeless people, can collectors and others at all hours, but no one has come forward with the woman's name, police said.

Firefighters were sent out at 7 a.m. that day to 1368 E. 15th St. and found the woman severely burned.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police will hold a news conference Monday today to describe the tattoo and ask for the public's help.

The case is being handled by detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Station, which can be reached at (323) 846-5363.
