Approximately 300 turkeys, chickens and ducks living in cages were killed Wednesday morning when a fire broke out at a small farm in Sylmar.
The fire broke out at 1 a.m. in the back of a home that sits on three-quarters of an acre of land.
A motor home, two cars and a nearby garage were also burned in the fire, which was under investigation.
Horses in an adjacent stable were uninjured.
Neighbors say the family who lives in the home runs the operation for profit and authorities were investigating if the farm was properly licensed.
"Nobody has 300 hundred chickens for pets," stated one neighbor.
The family declined any questions.
Now the Department of Animal Services and LAPD's Animal Cruelty Task Force are taking a much closer look. The task force unfortunately said when it comes to the amount of cats or dogs one person can own there are laws, but unfortunately there are noon that apply to birds.
