Bomb Squad: Bank Robber Left Suspicious Package

A Bank Robber In Alhambra Also Left Fake Bomb Device

LOS ANGELES An LAPD police bomb squad evacuated a bank to investigated a suspicious package left during an attempted robbery.  The robber had told tellers the package was a bomb, but it proved to be a fake.

Los Angeles police Officer Kate Lopez said the bank robbery on Pico Boulevard took place at 9:50 a.m. Friday. The suspect reportedly left a "suspicious" package at the counter of a bank teller window, telling bank employees that it was a bomb.

The suspect escaped the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Streets in the area had been blocked off and traffic was diverted, but the streets were reopened to traffic shortly after 11:30 a.m when the bomb squad determined the package was a false bomb.

No arrests were made and no description of the suspect was available.

Meanwhile, police in Alhambra say a male suspect robbed a bank there Friday and also left behind a fake bomb.

Bank of the West, at 855 W. Valley Blvd, was robbed about 10:30 Friday morning, according to a police department press release.

The suspect showed a teller a note saying he had a bomb and demanded money. He fled with an undisclosed amount leaving the "bomb" at the teller's window.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Bomb Detail determined the bomb was fake after blocking off the area.
