Police Patrolling In LA For Truants

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― An enforcement effort was under way Thursday in south Los Angeles to identify and cite minors who are truant from school, police said.

The operation began about 7:30 a.m. and was expected to continue until early afternoon, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

A preliminary figure on the number of truants detained and cited was not immediately available. The task force focused on the area patrolled by the LAPD's 77th Street Station.

Officers from the Los Angeles, Long Beach, Torrance and Gardena police departments were involved in the task force, along with sheriff's deputies and officers from the Los Angeles and Compton school police departments.
