Soggy Southern California is bracing for a second frigid storm system lurking in the Pacific.
Residents of burn areas in Yorba Linda remain under a voluntary evacuation order, due to a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms, according to Mark Aalders, an assistant to Yorba Linda's city manager.
A powerful late fall storm that dumped record rainfall throughout the region Monday moved east and skies were clearing Tuesday morning, but another colder storm was expected to soak the region overnight. Snow levels were expected to drop to 1,500 feet or lower.
A 29-year-old CHP officer was killed Monday while directing traffic around a vehicle that had crashed into a freeway barrier in Hacienda Heights.
The officer was hit by another car that skidded out of control.
In the San Diego area, one person was killed and another injured when an armored truck slid off a wet highway and rolled down an embankment.
The storm made roads treacherous, collapsed the roof of a trade school building and forced residents from homes out of fear of mudslides from fire stripped hillsides.
In Northern California, 11,000 homes and businesses in the Grass Valley area lost power when heavy snow brought tree limbs down on power lines.
