2 Sentenced In Soboba Indian Casino Robbery
MURRIETA, Calif. (CBS) ―
Two people who admitted being accessories in the $1.58 million Soboba Indian Casino heist were each sentenced Wednesday to three months probation and 180 days in jail, which they must serve on weekends.
Sonya Marie Boyorquez, the 23-year-old girlfriend of the alleged getaway driver, and Ricky Davis Aban, 19, both pleaded guilty last month to an accessory charge in the Aug. 2 robbery.
Aban also pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. According to prosecutors, he was paid nearly $200,000 to drive alleged mastermind Rolando Luda Ramos out of town.
Authorities say Aban drove Ramos to two motels, checking him in under his own name, and also took Ramos to a home in Carson, in Los Angeles County, while he was on the run.
Ramos, 25, and suspected getaway driver Eric Aguilera, 23, are charged with kidnapping, robbery, false imprisonment, using tear gas and burglary. They face life in prison with the possibility of parole if convicted on all counts.
Ramos, who worked as a security camera technician at the casino, allegedly entered a guarded area using his employee pass and security clearance, tied up several employees and made others stand with their faces to a vault wall as he scooped out cash.
Aguilera, who also worked at the casino, allegedly drove the getaway car, which was later abandoned. Investigators said they found some of the stolen money in the home he shared with Boyorquez.
The young woman gave birth to a daughter, her second child with Aguilera, while in custody.
Aban, who was arrested Aug. 17 at the sheriff's Hemet substation, voluntarily gave back the money he was paid and admitted to detectives that he had aided one of the other three suspects, authorities said.
Authorities recovered all but $29,130 of the $1,581,809 million stolen from the casino, authorities have said.
