Another Shooting Overnight Leaves 1 Man Dead

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Police questioned a man Thursday who allegedly shot and fatally wounded another man in an alley in the Fairfax Village section of Los Angeles, authorities said.

The shooting at Melrose Avenue and North Poinsettia Place was reported at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. George Hoopes of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station.

The deceased, a "male Hispanic about 25 or 26 years old," was shot several times in the upper body, Hoopes said. A witness reported hearing 12 gunshots.

The man died after being taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. His identity was not immediately released.

The alleged shooter was detained and being questioned by police, Hoopes said. A motive for the shooting was uncertain, he said, adding that police were trying to determine whether it happened in self-defense or during a possible robbery attempt.
