A 39-year-old woman was shot to death and another woman and a man were wounded in an attack during a birthday party in East Los Angeles Sunday, authorities said.

Sheila Montelongo, was shot once in the back and died after a shooting on the 1300 block of South Downey Road said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Byron Ward.

The shooting took place at 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

A gunman fired into the crowd without provocation and ran north on Downey Road, Ward said.

The other woman and a man were taken to a hospital, each with a gunshot wound to a leg, he said.

Their names have not been released.
