A Los Angeles police lieutenant calls it "a real whodunit."
Police have no suspects or motive in the freeway shooting of a 25-year-old man who was gravely wounded while driving a Bentley early Friday on the 101 freeway south of downtown.
Police said the car was peppered with at least 10 bullet holes. The man -- shot several times -- is in critical condition and is not expected to survive.
There were no immediate witnesses to the shooting but police hope traffic or security cameras in the area will provide clues about who carried out the attack.
The southbound freeway lanes were shut down for nearly eight hours, causing a miles-long jam during the morning rush hours.
Bentley Continentals sell for between $170,000 and $200,000 depending on the model and options.
Lieutenant Paul Vernon called the attack "a real whodunit" and said "it was a number of shots fired into this. Currently, quite intentional and it's something that we want to solve very quickly."
