Shia LaBeouf, who played Harrison Ford's son in this summer's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," faces a misdemeanor DUI charge after being injured in a traffic collision in West Hollywood.
LaBeouf, 22, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck at 2:24 a.m. Sunday when he allegedly turned in front of another vehicle at La Brea and Fountain avenues, said Ron Myers of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The pickup truck was struck and rolled over on its top, Myers said.
A witness said he heard the crash and that when he arrived at the scene LaBeouf was already out of the vehicle and his female passenger was crawling out of the driver's side of the truck, which was smoking and still running, the TMZ celebrity news Web site reported.
No sobriety tests were administered at the scene, the witness told TMZ.
LaBeouf was taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for an injury to his left hand, said Sgt. Kristin Aloma of the sheriff's West Hollywood station.
His female passenger and the female driver of the other vehicle were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
LaBeouf was cited for misdemeanor DUI "because of the alcohol on his breath and person, and there were signs of intoxication," Aloma said.
He was not cited for felony DUI because neither female was seriously injured, Aloma told the Los Angeles Times.
LaBeouf's attorneys said he plans to return to work on the set of the "Transformers" sequel within one month, The Times reported.
Over the past 10 years, LaBeouf has appeared in scores of movies and TV shows, including "Disturbia," "Transformers" and "The Greatest Game Ever Played."
In November he was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing in downtown Chicago for failing to obey a security guard's order to leave a Walgreen's drug store. He later told David Letterman on "The Late Show" that "drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping ... it's just as bad," The Times reported.
The case was later dropped because the drug store and security company decided not to press charges.
LaBeouf had a major supporting role in this summer's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
