A brush fire broke out before dawn Friday in a hilly area of Sherman Oaks, but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in 40 minutes with the help of a water-dropping helicopter.
A pre-dawn fire scorched about two acres of brush Friday in a hilly area of Sherman Oaks but was extinguished in under an hour with the help of a water-dropping helicopter.
The fire was reported at 5:36 a.m. in the 3700 block of Benedict Canyon Lane, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman d'Lisa Davies.
Fifty firefighters were rushed to the area, and the flames, confined to two acres, were extinguished in 40 minutes, Davies said.
The quick knockdown appears to have resulted from direct hits by a water-dropping helicopter.
There were no reports of injuries or structural damage, Davies said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
