Father Allegedly Shot Daughter To Keep Her Home
ANAHEIM (CBS) ―
An Anaheim man who, in order to prevent her from leaving the family home, shot his 21-year-old daughter in each leg is still missing Thursday. Police were concerned that he was on the way to her boyfriend's home Wednesday night, but the man has not yet turned up.
Seferino Ochoa, 48, opened fire about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in the house in the 500 block of South Archer Street that he shares with several relatives, Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez said.
Anaheim police worked with Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies to provide security for the girl's 27-year-old boyfriend, who lives in eastern Los Angeles County.
The daughter, whose name has not been released, recently moved out of the family home, but returned for a visit Monday evening, Martinez said.
When she began to leave, Ochoa allegedly initially tried to handcuff her to prevent her from going. He only got one cuff on so he got a gun and shot her in each leg.
After the shooting, Ochoa fled with the gun, but did not take a vehicle, Martinez said.
According to family members, Ochoa has been acting irrationally, incoherently and was despondent in recent weeks, possibly due to an illness.
The daughter is being treated at an undisclosed hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Ochoa was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, Martinez said.
