Police officers in Banning will be out in full force over the next few months to enforce the statewide 'Click It or Ticket' seatbelt campaign.
"We want to make sure that all drivers and passengers buckle up on every ride, day and night," said Banning police Chief Leonard Purvis. "Our officers will be on the lookout for those who are not buckled up and for teens and children not riding properly restrained."
California law requires the occupants of vehicles to wear a seatbelt.
In 2008, the state's seatbelt use rate was 95.7 percent, police said.
A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provided funding for the operation.
