Strong Winds, Record Heat Hit Southern California

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Santa Ana winds are still raking Southern California.

The National Weather Service says a high-wind warning remains in effect for parts of Los Angeles, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties until noon Tuesday.

Northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts as high as 65 mph are possible.

Record temperatures are also expected Tuesday.

Downtown Los Angeles topped out at 88 yesterday, a degree above the old 1996 record and 20 degrees above normal for the date.

Other temperature records set yesterday include 88 in San Gabriel, 87 in Long Beach and Burbank, and 86 at UCLA.

A 54-year-old record was broken in Oxnard, where temperatures inched up to 86 degrees, passing the 1955 record of 85.

San Diego reached 81.
