Authorities said a $480 million resort in Rancho Palos Verdes was evacuated on its opening weekend after a laundry room caught fire and smoke got into the air conditioning system.
Inspector Darryl Jacobs of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said the fire at the luxury Terranea Resort and Spa was reported just after 11 a.m. Sunday.
Jacobs said the blaze was contained to the laundry room and was knocked down in just over an hour.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The 582-room resort built on an ocean bluff opened Friday with the help of a local government loan valued at more than $8 million.
