Rainfall To Date Exceeds Total For All Last Year
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
The latest storm brought the rainfall total to date for downtown Los Angeles to 3.69 inches, surpassing the 3.21 inches recorded over the entire previous rain year, which was the driest on record, the National Weather Service said on Thursday.
There are still more than six months to go in the rain year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.
The 3.69 inches recorded downtown so far this year is more than three- quarters of an inch above the normal amount to this point in the year of 2.91 inches, said Stuart Seto of the NWS.
There is a 30 percent chance of more rain falling on Thursday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles, rising to 50 percent in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys.
A wind advisory will be in force from 1 p.m. on Thursday until 7 p.m. on Thursday night in the Antelope Valley, and a high wind watch will be in effect from Thursday night through Friday morning in Los Angeles County Mountains, including the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area.
Saturday's forecast calls for sunny skies.
