3.0 Quake Strikes Near Idyllwild
IDYLLWILD
A minor earthquake rattled the mountainous area south of Idyllwild during the noon hour Saturday.
"It was a very little one, maybe a few seconds, but you definitely felt it," said U.S. Forest Service Firefighter Naomi Johnson, who was at the ranger station in Idyllwild.
"People aren't really talking about it," Johnson said. "It just rattled the door a bit."
Automated seismograph equipment operated by the U.S. Geologic Service indicated a magnitude 3.0 temblor hit at 12:33 p.m.
The epicenter was about 10 miles below the surface of the earth, and about 5 miles south of Idyllwild in Riverside County.
No damages were reported from the small quake.
