Police Check Suspicious Cargo At L.A. Port

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A terminal at the Port of Los Angeles has been reopened after it was closed for about four hours because of a suspicious cargo container.

Port spokeswoman Theresa Adams Lopez says an x-ray scanner detected the suspicious container Thursday and officials called in the Los Angeles police bomb squad to check it out.

The bomb squad determined that the container's contents were not hazardous.

Officials would not say what was inside.

She says the container was returned to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, who plan to unload it for further inspection.
