Pomona Checkpoint: 1 In 30 Cars Impounded
POMONA, Calif.
Pomona police impounded 194 vehicles from drivers without valid licenses and arrested two people during a checkpoint operation that wrapped up early Saturday.
One of the people arrested had a warrant charging him with drunken driving, and the other person was arrested for refusing to sign a ticket for driving with a suspended license, according to Cpl. Bert Sanchez.
For people to get their cars back, they have to clear up the offense and pay the towing fee and a daily impound charge. In some cases, the vehicle may be sold.
Police set up at Mission Boulevard and Curran Place about 2 p.m. Friday and screened some 6,300 vehicles by about midnight, he said.
Of the more than 200 tickets issued for vehicle code infractions, 26 were for suspended licenses related to driving ability or convictions for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Sanchez said.
