Police Car Collides With Vehicle During Pursuit

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― A Los Angeles police cruiser collided with another vehicle as officers chased a suspect, who crashed his own vehicle moments later and ran away, authorities said.

The crash occurred Tuesday night as officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station were pursuing a vehicle involved in an assault with a deadly weapon incident, said LAPD Sgt. John Cudworth of the South Traffic Division.

During the pursuit, a patrol car collided with another vehicle on East 75th Street, just east of South Central Avenue, he said. Details of the crash were not immediately clear.

The two officers involved in the crash complained of minor leg and chest injuries, Cudworth said, adding that the driver of the other vehicle also suffered minor injuries.

Moments later, the suspect was involved in a collision several blocks away, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, he said.

The incidents were being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, Cudworth said.
