Pacoima Middle School Fire
PACOIMA
A fire in the auditorium at Pacoima Middle School took firefighters almost an hour and a half to put out, a city fire official said.
The fire was reported at 4:20 p.m. at 9919 Laurel Canyon Blvd., said
d'Lisa Davies of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"When firefighters arrived on the scene, there was heavy smoke coming
from the area," Davies said. "They put out some fire inside, but there's
still a lot of smoke so they're trying to find more flames."
With 122 firefighters on the scene, the blaze was out by 5:40 p.m., she
said.
The building sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage. Damages were estimated at $1.5 million to the structure and $500,000 to contents, she said.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
