Officials say at least six people, including at least one firefighter, were overcome by a Freon leak inside a refrigerator until in a Ralphs supermarket in Irvine.
Authorities say five people were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Firefighters were called to the market at Alton Parkway and Jeffrey Road just before 7 p.m., said Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority.
The other three firefighters and two civilians had minor injuries, McKeown said.
As of 9 p.m., firefighters were expected to stay on scene until the Freon could be dissipated.
It was expected they would be on scene until late
into the evening.
