Man Shot By Anaheim Police Disappears

ANAHEIM Anaheim police Sunday sought a shooting suspect believed to have been wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police, a sergeant said.

The suspect has been missing since he was apparently wounded when he exchanged shots with a police officer in an alley near the 800 block of South Claudina Street shortly after 9:30 Saturday night, Anaheim police Sgt. Tim Schmidt said.

Police were dispatched on a report of a man with a gun and were told a man had been shot, Schmidt said. An officer encountered a the gunman moments later, and the two exchanged shots, he said.

The suspect, apparently wounded, ran from the alley with the handgun, the officer said.

No officers were hurt, Schmidt said. A SWAT team helped search the area.

The victim from the initial shooting, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening wound, he said, adding that that shooting is believed to have been gang related.

As is routine, the Orange County District Attorney's office will investigate the officer-involved shooting.

Anyone with more information about what happened or the whereabouts of the suspect was asked to call detectives at (714) 765-1900.
