Prosecutors Rest Their Case In Carona Trial
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) ―
Federal prosecutors have rested their case against former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona who is standing trial on corruption charges, allowing the defense team to start presenting its side of the story to jurors.
After calling 34 witnesses since the trial began Oct. 28, the U.S. Attorney's Office finished its case on Thursday.
The prosecution has aimed to show that Carona, who was known asĀ "America's Sheriff," took bribes and kickbacks and peddled his influence.
Carona's defense team started calling witnesses Thursday and say they expect to wrap up their case by next week.
