Man Tries To Kidnap 11-Year-Old Girl In Lynwood

LYNWOOD Authorities asked for the public's help Friday to find the man who tried to kidnap an 11-year-old girl walking to Lynwood Middle School.

The victim stopped at the southwest corner of Long Beach Boulevard and Cedar Avenue Thursday morning, waiting to cross the street, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy said.

While standing there waiting, a man walked up and grabbed her arm, saying he wanted to show her something, the deputy said.

Then, he started to pull her toward a vehicle that had its headlights on, which was parked in a liquor store lot on the southwest corner of the intersection, the deputy said.

The victim broke free from the suspect's grasp, and he grabbed her again with both hands.

She then yelled at him to leave her alone and kicked him in the groin, the deputy said.

The girl ran eastbound across Long Beach Boulevard, where she hid behind a bush for several minutes until she felt it was safe to continue walking to school, according to the deputy.

The suspect was described as black, 50 to 60 years old, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, and about 150 to 160 pounds.

He has black and gray hair, brown eyes and has a 1-inch pink vertical scar on his left cheek.

Anyone with information on the suspect was urged to call detectives at the sheriff's Century Station at (323) 568-4911.
