California Murder Suspect Extradited From Mexico

INDIO, Calif. (AP) ― A 45-year-old man has been extradited from Mexico to be tried for the 1984 murder of a Cathedral City man.

The Riverside County District Attorney's office said Monday that Luis Sauceda Duran was turned over to prosecutors last week.

He was set to be arraigned Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Duran and two other men took Leonardo Baez Arredondo into a desert area east of Los Angeles and shot him to death after a rumor began circulating that Arredondo was having an affair with one of Duran's relatives.

Duran was arrested by Mexican authorities in April 2008.

He was sent to the United States after losing an appeal of his extradition.

Two other men suspected in the murder also have been charged.
