L.A. Police Identify Suspect In 1997 Killings

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Los Angeles police say DNA evidence links a convicted murderer to the 1997 killings of a North Hollywood woman and her mentally disabled son.

Police on Thursday identified the suspect as 37-year-old Rafael Martinez and said they'll seek murder charges. Detectives say they linked him to the killing of Nancy and Shawn Boehm by retesting DNA evidence collected from under the woman's fingernails.

Nancy Boehm, 57, and her 23-year-old son were stabbed to death in their home. Authorities say they believe the mother, a laid-off auto assembly worker, was selling drugs and the killing was narcotics-related.

Her son had played basketball in the Special Olympics.

Martinez is in state prison for the 2001 stabbing murder of another woman in the same neighborhood.
