An early morning fire damaged a two-story commercial building Friday in downtown Los Angeles authorities said.
The fire at Yoni Distributors, on the 900 block of East 11th St., was reported just after 4:30 a.m., drawing 150 firefighters to the scene, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Kelley.
Firefighters extinguished the flames at 6:18 a.m., Kelley said.
About 5 a.m., firefighters had transitioned into a defensive mode, battling the blaze from the outside while flames shot out of the structure's roof and heavy black smoke billowed from the 50-by-100 foot building, Kelley said.
Kelley said the business distributes car audio equipment, and chemicals in the electronics was likely the reason why the blaze continued to burn more than an hour later.
Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby structures, Kelley said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
No injuries were reported.
