LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A South Los Angeles man has been charged with several felonies related to dog fighting.

Authorities say 41-year-old Walter Citizen was arrested in April and charged with 10 felony counts, including possession of fighting dogs and dogfighting paraphernalia.

He has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed awaiting a court hearing next week. Authorities say they were searching for an accomplice named Arnett Counts.

Authorities say the two men had 17 dogs with several scars on them, especially to the face. They say such scars don't come from random dog disputes.

The dogs were taken to city shelters for treatment.
