More than a dozen direct flights and at least 65 connecting flights leaving Los Angeles International Airport were canceled Sunday due to flood damage caused by Hurricane Ike.
Continental Airlines canceled 10 direct flights from LAX to Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport and four of the airline's flights between San Diego and Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport were also canceled.
Four nonstop Southwest flights scheduled for Houston's William P. Hobby Airport were also canceled.
Access roads to George Bush International Airport, which lost power in at least one terminal, were underwater, and a passenger monorail suffered severe damage.
Flights destined for Houston on other airlines via connecting cities did not go through, leaving passengers stranded in those cities, airlines said.
