La Cañada Residents Return Home After Mudslide

An hour of rain overnight triggered a debris flow in La Cañada Flintridge.

Some La Cañada Flintridge residents are back in their homes Friday after a mudslide threatened several homes late Thursday night authorities said.
Mud flowed into the back of homes near Normanton Drive after about
two inches of rain fell in a half hour period late Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the Station Fire burn area at 11:32 p.m. Thursday with a warning of heavy showers in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Storm cells formed so quickly that forecasters did not see them at first.
"It was uncharted, it developed quick and we couldn't see it," said NWS Meteorologist Curt Kaplan, speaking this morning from Oxnard. "There was a
convergence line where the cells pulled together. We got the advisory out, but
you can't forecast it when it happens this fast."
Firefighters have been working to secure the area around the mudslide and debris flow.
The mud is about five feet deep.
Rock Castle Road from Fairhurst to where it dead ends is closed.
No homes were destroyed but some vehicles were impacted by the debris flow.
No injuries were reported.
Los Angeles County officials flagged the impacted neighborhood a high-risk area after the Station fire according to LA County Fire Inspector Fredric Stowers.
