Casino Heist Mastermind Convicted Of Robbery

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) ― Jurors have convicted the mastermind of a $1.5 million Soboba Casino vault heist inspired by the movie "Ocean's 11."

But the Riverside County panel on Wednesday acquitted 27-year-old Rolando Luda Ramos on a pair of kidnapping charges that could have led to life in prison.

Ramos, who installed surveillance cameras at the casino in San Jacinto, was found guilty of 12 felonies, including robbery and false imprisonment. He faces up to 18 years in prison when sentenced Aug. 21.

Prosecutors said Ramos and three others tied up three surveillance guards, held seven vault workers hostage and took $1.5 million from the casino's vault in August 2007.

A jury is still deliberating the fate of co-defendant Eric Aguilera. Two others pleaded guilty earlier and were sentenced to six months in jail.
