Police continue to search for an assailant who got out of a vehicle and chased a man down on foot before stabbing him to death in Inglewood Tuesday.
The slaying outside 721 S. Myrtle Ave. occurred around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, said Inglewood police Sgt. Neal Cochran.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the man in the street suffering from multiple stab wounds, he said, adding that the victim was taken to a hospital where he later died.
His identity was not immediately released.
Witnesses told police that the victim was walking north on South Myrtle Avenue when a male came out of his vehicle and began chasing him, Cochran said.
The assailant attacked the man with a knife after he fell in the street as he was running south on Myrtle. The suspect then fled north on Myrtle and disappeared.
The crime occurred in a "fairly nice neighborhood" where there have been only a few major crimes in some time, according to an Inglewood police lieutenant.
Anyone with information on the slaying or the assailant was urged to call the Inglewood Police Department's homicide section at (310) 412-5246 or the anonymous toll-free hotline at 888-41-Crime.
