Eight neo-Nazis demonstrating against illegal immigration in Riverside left the scene after just 45 minutes when hundreds of counter-protestors shouted them down and tore up their swastika-covered flags.
Saturday's demonstration was scheduled to last two hours but the protesters fled in a pair of cars after police advised them to leave.
A local television news station showed some shoving between the two groups that was stopped by police in riot gear, but no one was arrested.
Mike O'Dell -- a 42-year-old member of the National Socialist Movement who was at the rally -- told the Riverside Press-Enterprise he was pleased the group got its message out, but wished there had been more security for the rally to continue.
Counter-protestor Emilio Amaya says "it's nice that so many people came out to basically say that we don't tolerate racism in Riverside County."
