iPhone Helps Put Burglary Suspects Behind Bars

PASADENA Two men were behind bars Sunday on suspicion of burglarizing a Pasadena home, thanks to a thoughtful passerby, digital technology and local police.

Carlos Saldivar, 28, of Pasadena, and Christian de Los Santos, 23, were arrested Saturday, Pasadena police told the Pasadena Star-News.

A witness who saw a man carrying a briefcase and wearing latex gloves as he got into a van in the 2900 block of East Colorado Boulevard on Saturday morning thought the scene looked suspicious, said Pasadena police Lt. Keith Jones.

The witness took a picture of the van with his iPhone and then called police, Jones said.

Police confirmed a burglary took place on the block and were able to zoom in on the photo and identify the van's license plate, he said.

When officers headed to the home of the registered owner of the van in the 600 block of North Los Robles Avenue, they found Saldivar and de Los Santos inside, separating jewelry from the burglary into gold and silver pieces, according to Jones.

"Neighbors got involved, the victims got their jewelry back and everyone's happy," said Jones, adding that the two arrested suspects are probably less than thrilled.
