An elderly hotel manager was murdered in downtown L.A. Tuesday and authorities continue the search for her killer.
Officials say the victim, now identified as 74-year-old Hideko Oyama, was found bleeding in her office on the second floor of the Chetwood Hotel about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The hotel, which reportedly caters to Japanese tourists visiting Little Tokyo, is located at 411 E. Fourth St.
Oyama died at County-USC Medical Center, a police spokesperson said.
Lieutenant Paul Vernon, head of the detective bureau, said the homicide was the first in the downtown area this year.
Last year, five people were killed downtown, and that marked the lowest rate in more than 20 years, he said.
"It is so rare and all the more tragic to find a woman in her seventies murdered," Vernon said. "We have very little information to go on, but we hope someone saw or heard something."
