It was not clear from law enforcement and coroner accounts whether the incident was considered a hit-and-run, or whether the driver of the vehicle in question was aware a child had been struck.
Sheriff's investigators asked for the public's help Saturday to identify a vehicle that struck and killed a one-year-old boy outside a home in the Jurupa area.
The toddler, Roman Gomez of Riverside, was struck by a truck in the 5200 block of Avenue Juan Bautista, near Skyview Drive, according to the Riverside County coroner.
The incident was reported at 9:40 p.m. Friday outside a residence, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The child was declared dead at Riverside Community Hospital at 10:17 p.m., according to the coroner.
Deputies from the Riverside County sheriff's Jurupa Valley station are investigating. They initially responded to a report of a child being struck by a car.
The Sheriff's Department is seeking assistance to identify the vehicle that struck the child, Deputy Craig Roberts said Saturday.
It was not clear from law enforcement and coroner accounts whether the incident was considered a hit-and-run, or whether the driver of the vehicle in question was aware a child had been struck.
Deputies asked anyone with information to contact sheriff's Investigator Chris Barajas at (951) 955-2600.
