High waves are rolling onto Southern California beaches Saturday, particularly west-facing strands. The National Weather Service reports that the current storm system dominating the eastern Pacific Ocean has generated large swells that are rolling in from the west-northwest.
The meteorologists issued a high surf advisory for Los Angeles County beaches for all day Saturday, with sets of 6-8 foot waves and strong currents likely.
Waves Saturday morning at Surfrider and Topanga beaches were observed breaking that high, but in sloppy form and cut up by wind chop.
Any surfers braving the water would also be confronted with three years' worth of debris washed into the ocean from the first significant rainstorm since January, 2005.
