Girl, 13, Kidnapped, Assaulted On Way To School

HAWTHORNE, Calif. Police sought the public's help on Wednesday to find a man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl who was walking to school in Hawthorne.

The girl told police she was accosted about 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 3500
block of 132nd Street while on her way to Bud Carson Middle School, said Hawthorne police Lt. Michael Ishii.

The teen said a man threatened her with a knife, "shoved" her into a car and drove her to a different location, where he sexually assaulted her at gunpoint, Ishii said.

Afterward, the suspect drove her back to the area of her school and ordered her to get out of the car, Ishii said. She ran to the school and reported the incident.

"She was not physically injured," Ishii said.

The man was described as black, in his early 20s, tall and thin, with thick braided hair. He wore a white T-shirt and dark jeans. He was driving a large, older-model four-door car with faded black paint and tinted windows.

Detectives circulated a composite sketch of the man and urged anyone knowing more about the case to call police at (310) 349-2700.
