The theft of thousands of dollars worth of construction equipment is halting a Habitat for Humanity project to house 62 low-income families in the San Fernando Valley.
The San Fernando-Santa Clarita branch of Habitat for Humanity will have to raise more than $10,000 to replace the stolen equipment, which includes table saws, drills and paint sprayers, and repair smashed surveillance cameras and monitors, broken gates and cut telephone lines, says Joyce Grair, the group's community outreach director.
The group has already finished 20 homes. A second phase of 17 homes was scheduled to be completed in February.
