Authorities say a Good Samaritan who was hurt while trying to rescue an apparently suicidal woman from being killed in traffic has died of his injuries.
Fullerton Police Sgt. Kevin Craig says Charles Bybee, 62, of Norwalk, died early Friday at a hospital.
Craig says Bybee went into a busy street in Fullerton Monday night to rescue a young woman who seemed to be trying to get hit by oncoming cars.
When a police car arrived, Bybee crossed the street to tell the officer about the woman. As he was heading back to help her, Bybee was struck by a Honda Accord and went through the windshield.
Police say the 21-year-old woman wasn't hit and was taken into custody for a mental evaluation.
The Accord driver was not cited.
