Authorities identified a 7-year-old girl who died at a hospital after being struck by a van in a crosswalk in the south Los Angeles area on Tuesday.
Aileen Trujillo was crossing the street with a 17-year-old boy and a 12- year-old girl when the three were struck by the vehicle about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday morning at Firestone Boulevard and Zamora Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The boy suffered major injuries and the other girl was treated for minor injuries, the CHP reported.
The 38-year-old van driver, Francisco J. Gonzalez, was not arrested, but the investigation was continuing.
According to the CHP, Gonzalez was eastbound on Firestone Boulevard near Zamora Avenue when the 1992 Chevrolet Astro van, traveling at about 30-40 mph, struck the children as they were walking north across Firestone Boulevard in a crosswalk.
"The traffic signal for the pedestrians was green. (Gonzalez) stated the sun was obscuring his vision," according to a CHP news release.
