A dozen representatives of faiths ranging from Buddhism to Judaism led hundreds of San Franciscans in prayer and song the night before the California Supreme Court is expected to decide whether a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage is legal.
The service, held at Grace Cathedral, was organized by the group Marriage Equality USA. Many in the crowd teared up during the somber ceremony.
Reverend Roland Stringfellow, with the Pacific School of Religion, says the service was meant to show how many communities of faith stand with same-sex couples on this issue.
Several representatives of various faiths said they were ready to get arrested in acts of civil disobedience if the court does not overturn the ban.
