County Offers Foreclosure Prevention Services
LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Monday listed resources available for people facing foreclosure and financial hardships as police investigated the murder-suicide of a family facing such problems.
Villaraigosa said there will be a free Homeownership and Foreclosure Prevention Fair at the Braude Constituent Service Center, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Personal help from non-profit housing counselors will be available; information about refinancing opportunities and first-time homebuyer programs will be available; and lenders willing to work out monthly payments or the possibility of switching from an adjustable rate to a fixed rate mortgage will be on hand.
People can pre-register by calling (818) 892-7600.
Also, through a partnership between the mayor's office and other city agencies, foreclosure prevention resources will be available at six WorkSource Centers.

Information about unfair evictions and discrimination is available by calling the Los Angeles Housing Department's rent hotline at (866) 557-RENT.
Apartments residents have legal protections from evictions if their buildings are foreclosed and can call the rent hotline for assistance.

People facing homelessness or needing mental health help can call the Los Angeles County hotline at 2-1-1. The Los Angeles County Mental Health Referral Line can be called at (800) 854-7771. The Suicide Prevention Crisis Line can be called at (877) 727-4747.
