Metro Service Back To Normal After NoHo Fire

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. A service truck burst into flames Friday when it made contact with electrical rails inside a tunnel at the Metro's North Hollywood Station.

No one was injured in the accident, which delayed Red Line commuters at the North Hollywood Station early Friday morning, authorities said.

The truck was roughly 100 yards inside the tunnel, Los Angeles Fire Department Battalion Chief Peter Benesch said.

Firefighters had a difficult time extinguishing the flames because of the high voltage system that runs the trains, Metro spokesman Luis Inzunza said.

The charred truck was removed from the tracks by 4 a.m., Inzunza said. The trucks are regularly scheduled to travel through the Metro tunnels during off-hours to perform maintenance and repairs.

Red Line passengers on the first few trains experienced delays of several minutes, but by 6:21 a.m. the schedule was back to normal, Inzunza said.
