A driver suspected of driving under the influence slammed her vehicle into a pole and destroyed a fire hydrant in Beverly Hills Tuesday. The driver was injured in the solo-vehicle crash.
The crash at the corner of Wilshire and South Robertson boulevards was reported around 3 a.m., Beverly Hills police Sgt. Jay Kim said.
The driver was alone and may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, he said. She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with unspecified injuries but was in stable condition, he added.
Water from the severed hydrant flowed throughout the intersection following the crash. The city's public works department was contacted to handle the damaged hydrant, Kim said.
