A fire on the third floor of a 19,000-square-foot building on the east side of downtown Los Angeles early Saturday caused $45,000 damage, officials said.
About 100 firefighters responded to the early-morning blaze, which broke out around 3 a.m., at 1328 S. Santa Fe Ave. d'Lisa Davies of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Davies described the structure as an "artisan" building, with both businesses and residences in it.
No one with the fire department was able to say if anyone was inside when the fire started.
Tenants are supposed to hang a sign outside of the building to indicate if anyone is staying overnight.
The fire started on the third floor, fire spokesman Devin Gales said.
The cause of the fire appeared to be electrical, Gales said.
No one was injured in the fire, officials said.
